Application statement

Through my exploration of design and personal journey with self-expression, I have come to deeply love the gender-bending, extravagant, and carefree side of the fashion industry. My aspiration is to contribute to the ever-growing movement of fashion that transcends traditional binaries and creates spaces for self-expression beyond gender constraints. Truly being yourself in a world with so many rules takes guts, and even if it’s as simple as a man in a skirt, nothing inspires me more than someone who is unapologetic in their individuality. I am also constantly influenced by the human form and its raw beauty—never the same, but always perfectly imperfect. I strive to centre my designs around highlighting authenticity, but beyond design, I am deeply passionate about the intersection of fashion and social change.

Experience

Although I only began creating art through film and design in Year 10, since then I have been able to hone my interests and find the things that fill me with so much passion I feel like I'll explode if I don’t create something out of it. My skills are most evident in my larger projects, where I’ve learned to manage complex endeavors, and I’m eager to continue refining this ability. Throughout many of the projects in this portfolio, I've collaborated with others to create collective works, such as the photos featured in Tidal Ruin. This experience has helped me to refine my creative process, as working toward a shared goal with others often requires letting go of control. Through courses like 'Fashion Expression' and 'Design Industry Techniques', I hope to further develop my skills in pattern making and other industry practices. I plan to use these skills as I continue to explore the fashion world and follow my passions within it.

Final film evaluation

Throughout this project I made changes whenever I felt the sample or test shot wouldn’t take my film in the right direction so due to these constant refinements I am very happy with the final results. I was also very lucky to have access to such beautiful filming locations around my home and it will be interesting to make films in the future as I may not be able to use this element to the same extent. For me the inspiration for a film always starts with music and so Runway display was an absolute passion project fort me. I found my passion for cinematography throughout this process and I absolutely plan to continue using this medium in future projects.
